Soft furnishings – Cushion Covers
Our wonderfully soft and cuddly cushions will look good on any chair or sofa. The covers are made of 100% natural wool. This is the same as our yarn for hand-knitting and will blend with any colour scheme.
Our two designs use a variety of patterns and stitches. Both designs are large squares. One is 50cm X 50cm, and the other is 40cm X 40cm. The pattern is exactly the same on both sides. The opening is made using a hidden zip along one side.
Each cushion cover comes complete with a cushion pad inside it. The inner cover is cotton and is filled with 100% pure wool in the form of scoured, carded Exmoor Horn fleece.
Knitting these covers uses between 330 and 350 grammes of wool per cover, so you can appreciate that this is nearly a thick pullover’s worth of natural fibre. It comes to you with love from Exmoor where the sheep live who grew the wool, and where their ancestors have lived for centuries.
Hand wash gently using a wool-friendly detergent. Or machine wash on a specialist cool wool wash. Dry flat as for pullovers. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY.

Soft furnishings – Throws
In partnership with Bristol Weaving Mill, we have designed a throw (modern sort of decorative blanket) using our heather purple, fern green and Bossington pebble grey yarns. Our chosen design is called “Mirror” as it has a plain grey centre within a framework of moorland colours, thus uniting seashore and natural vegetation. This is a very special project as it is the first time that Exmoor Horn Wool has ventured into weaving rather than knitting, though of course it uses wool from exactly the same sheep as all our other products. So you know that if you decide to use the throw as a picnic blanket on an Exmoor excursion, it will have a very close, and completely unique, association with the ground you are sitting on.
The throw was originally woven in a 4 4 twill at sample time, but this changed to a 2 2 twill during production. Its bold pattern measures 200X177cm before washing, approximately 10 – 15% less afterwards. Only 27 throws have been made, with each one individually numbered on its label – a limited edition.
Here are some photographs taken at the time of sampling, when a scaled-down sample was handwoven. You can see the pattern taking shape in both warp and weft threads. Hand wash gently (if you absolutely must) using a wool-friendly detergent, dry and re-shape on a line. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY.
